The Malibu High School girls varsity volleyball team finished its spectacular season last week on Tuesday with a disappointing loss in the first round of the playoffs to Chadwick, 3-0. Malibu maintained a valiant effort in the loss, with key performances by the sister pair of Anais and Sienna Masiello.

The Sharks had ended the regular season with record of 9-1, earning themselves the Frontier League championship. The squad clinched the playoff spot with an astounding victory over Santa Paula, and then went on to finish the regular season defeating rival Bishop Diego on the road, 3-0.

The school’s junior varsity football team finished off its season last Thursday on a winning note, with a 16-13 victory over Animo Leadership.

The Sharks were able to pull off the victory, even after losing starting quarterback Austin Scott to a broken arm and a cleat injury to the other hand, as well as receiver Doug Bogie to an injured elbow. Malibu kept its offensive flow with help from Riley O’Neill and Razmik Gharibian, who both stepped in at quarterback. The Sharks saw key performances from Jackson Carter, Kyle Parker and Jackson Wirht, as well as from newcomer tailback Dakota Semler.

The team opened its season strong, going undefeated in nonleague play at 4-0-1. But they were unable to keep the momentum in league play, finishing at 2-3.
