Sticky road rage

The following was addressed to Supervisor Yaroslavsky

We are long-term Malibu residents in the unincorporated L.A. County area of Sea View Estates in the Las Flores Canyon area. The roads here have been going through a much-needed repaving process recently, specifically this week repaving Las Flores Canyon and Rambla Pacifico roads. This is about the third time this has been performed in the 20 years we have lived here, but the first time this particular technique has been used consisting of, first, preparing the roadway for a few days and then using a slurry product to repave. The problem is that in the past, it was done, one lane at a time, using a quicker asphalt method where the road was essentially all done overnight, if I recall correctly.

My complaint with the current job is that the first process has left about four miles of the only roadway to my home a sticky gravel road, unpaved now for the third day with, from what I was told today, several more days to go. This is damaging all of our automobiles, as the nature of this sticky gravel causes permanent scratches around the sideboards and wheel wells of our cars.

As there are many residents in this area who care about the appearance and value of their automobiles and have invested significant funds in doing so, I am appalled at the level of incompetence of whoever selected this contractor, repaving technique and extended time frame. It appears now that this will not be completed in time for the weekend and is an unreasonable action by the county and contractor.

The contractor states that this technique was the decision of L.A. County and they do not think it being the best process for the area. I respectfully ask for your assistance in resolving this nightmare in a timely fashion.
