Gunfire, 2 Crashes At Zuma As Homeowner Chases Armed Burglar
A series of gunshots as a homeowner with a shotgun chases a burglar up the PCH.
And homeowners on Bush Drive are warned that the burglar has a handgun … and escaped into their neighborhood.
Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies say all this began at about 1:45 this morning … when a homeowner found a burglar at a house up in the Ventura county section of Malibu.
The homeowner tells Fox 11 news that he went outside with a handgun to confront the burglar.
But there was a struggle and the burglar ended up with the handgun … firing three shots at the homeowner.
As the burglar drove off in a pickup truck … the homeowner went inside to get a 12 gauge shotgun … and the chase was on … two pickup trucks and guns blazing.
East on PCH into Malibu … with the bad guy leaning out the window to fire shots at the pursuing homeowner.
At the Zuma Beach lifeguard headquarters … the bad guy slammed on the brakes … and the homeowners’s pickup truck was smashed.
The bad guy kept going … he turned up Busch Drive and crash his pick up into a recreational vehicle parked on the side.
The burglar then drove off on all-terrain vehicle … which had been in the bed of the pickup truck.
The burglar … the A T V … and the handgun are all missing.
The L- A County sheriff sent out a helicopter and there was a big manhunt.
All of this was reported by Fox 11 … which broke this story.
So to repeat … a homeowner lost his handgun in a struggle with a burglar … then kept chasing this crook with guns blazing through Malibu … for a property crime.
The burglar got loose at 2 in the morning … on Busch Drive.
Ventura County sheriff’s deputies are investigating.
2 Buildings Burn At Calamigos Ranch
Firefighters are mopping up after an early morning fire at Calamigos Ranch.
Flames broke out at 3-37 this morning … at the restaurant … wedding venue and vineyard.
Two buildings reportedly burned … at the site … which has numerous buildings… pavilions … ramadas and other structures.
About six fire trucks and 30 firefighters were dispatched.
Fire was declared knocked down at 4:27.
No word on what caused the blaze … but it was confined to what the fire department described as two outbuildings at the Calamigos Ranch.
Hang Glider Crashes Near Point Mugu – Again
Another motorized hang glider has crashed near Point Mugu.
The ultralight aircraft was reported down on the Oxnard Plain Sunday afternoon . … near the Las Posas Road interchange on Pacific Coast Highway.
The ultralight apparently clipped a power line near Calleguas Creek next to Mugu Lagoon.
The pilot had minor injuries.
Th Ventura County Star reports it was a Quicksilver MXL Sport … out of Camarillo Airport.
Earlier this year … a man drowned after an ultralight crashed into the ocean at Point Mugu.

Pepperdine Sewage May Flow To City Sewage Plant
Major developments on the Malibu sewer issue.
L-A County says their three-decade old sewage plant at Malibu Mesa is failing.
The plant serves Pepperdine University and 164 residences at Pepperdine and the Malibu Country Estates.
It’s worn out … substandard … and needs to be rebuilt by the year 20-22… says L-A County … which operates it.
The county is conducting a feasibility study on what to do with the sewage from Pepperdine and the 164 residences … and guess what … the new Malibu civic center sewer plant is just down the canyon.
That city plant is under construction … to serve commercial properties in the Civic Center.
Homeowners in the Malibu Colony and Serra Estates are also under state order to connect to it … but the cost is upwards of 90 thousand dollars average per residence.
If the county plugs in Pepperdine … plus the 164 residences … into the new city sewage plant … the cost per residence for everyone in the colony and Serra Estates would go down.
Maybe.
Plus … it would allow the city to spray its treated water on the Pepperdine lawn.
The matter goes before the city council next week.
City May Put Teeth Into B and B Rules
Overnight vacation rentals .. party house rentals … bed and breakfasts.
Spme people rent out their houses in order to make their mortgage payment.
Others are using it to support themselves in retirement.
The Coastal Commission is looking at the lack of reasonably-priced motels in Malilbu … and says the overnight rentals are important coastal access features.
But for some …. overnight rentals have turned their quiet Malibu streets into loud motels.
And who says commercial enterprises are allowed in residential areas????
The city is finally coming up with some tighter rules for the rentals.
Among the proposals:
— continue the ban on short term rentals in apartment complexes with three or more units;
— requiring the homeowner to attest when they register that their homes have
smoke detectors, with an inspection provision;
and no requirement that the property be the owner’s primary residence.
The city is also considering a requirement for signs … giving the owner’s phone number … up 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
The sheriff has some problems with that .. it may invite burglars.
The rules go up for discussion at the Planning Commission meeting tonight at City Hall.
Claudia Lane Takes It Easy On Way To CIF Finals

Malibu High running star Claudia Lane’s celebrity status is approaching legendary levels.
Those are not my words …. that’s what the Los Angeles Daily News is saying this morning.
Lane set a course record last week at the C I F Southern Section Division 4 individual titles …. and coasted again to another victory Saturday.
At the end of her race … other runners lined up to get her autograph.
The Malibu junior told the Riverside Press-Enterprise she was trying to conserve energy for the state meet … this week in Fresno.
