Who should you vote for in the Malibu City Council election? One way to answer that question is by focusing on the critical issues important to everyone in Malibu: Fire protection, adequate water and traffic.
Susan Tellem and Jefferson Wagner rallied the community to defeat the Santa Monica Conservancy’s plan to put overnight camping and campfires in our backyards. Pamela Conley Ulich led the fight at the City Council table to defeat this dangerous idea.
Planning Commissioner John Sibert voted in favor of this overnight camping plan while Kathy Wisnicki said nothing. If fire protection is a concern, Tellem, Wagner and Ulich are your candidates.
Representatives and legal counsel from the L.A. County Water District testified that if Malibu relies on existing water sources to fight a fire in the proposed La Paz Development in the Civic Center, some Malibu residents might not have water they need to fight the fire where they live.
John Sibert ignored this warning and voted to approve this development project.
Susan Tellem and Jefferson Wagner fought against approval without assurance of adequate water and Pamela Ulich indicated she would do the same at the City Council meeting. Kathy Wisnicki again said nothing.
If adequate water is a concern, Tellem, Wagner and Ulich are your candidates.
Susan Tellem, Jefferson Wagner and Pamela Ulich are fighting to require Malibu to create a plan to manage Malibu traffic before the City moves forward with approximately one million square feet of development in the Civic Center.
Expert testimony from a traffic consultant stated that traffic impacts of development in the Civic Center were understated by as much as 130 percent.
Ignoring this testimony, John Sibert voted to approve the development project. Once again, Kathy Wisnicki was silent.
Malibu is in a wildfire zone, water is needed to fight fires and rational traffic circulation is important to ensure that residents can get out and the firefighters can get in when there is another fire.
Your vote for Tellem, Wagner and Ulich is a vote to insure our safety and welfare.
