Ryan Spann is a fabulous prospect in the light heavyweight division, going 5-1 thus far. He’s bigger and younger than Anthony Smith, has better striking, active striking, and grappling stats, and fights out of a phenomenal fight camp (Fortis MMA). I’ll gladly take this plus money, please and thanks.

Rongzhu — who cut his teeth in China’s Wu Lin Feng promotion — put together a 10-fight win streak and claimed its Lightweight title en route to UFC. His debut proved a disappointing one, turning in an uncharacteristically tepid performance in a losing effort against “Kazula” Vargas.

So long as Gravely’s gas tank holds up, he’s a problem for virtually any Bantamweight below the Top 10. Indeed, he’s a spectacular wrestler with dangerous submissions and, as we saw against Birchak, some deceptively solid stand up. If he’s got the motor to go 15 minutes, he’s too much for Maness, who struggled early with Munoz’s grappling before the late-notice debutante began to fade.

While Gravely’s narrow escape from de Freitas was cause for concern, the stylistic clash is favorable enough to assuage my worries. In the end, relentless chain-wrestling and high-level scrambles will carry him to a third consecutive UFC victory.

Just two fights after losing his TKO Bantamweight title to UFC veteran Taylor Lapilus, Nathan Maness (13-1) out-lasted grappling ace Johnny Munoz Jr. to claim his first Octagon victory. Then came Luke Sanders, whom Maness tapped midway through the second round with a “Performance of the Night”-winning rear-naked choke. “Mayhem” will have five inches of height and three inches of reach on Tony Gravely (21-6).

I almost pulled the trigger on going with another dog in the light heavyweight co-main event, but instead have decided to go with favorite Ion Cutelaba. Devin Clark struggles with pressure, and Cutelaba is nothing but aggressive pressuring to begin all of his fights. There’s a good chance he finishes Clark in the early going, as all of Clark’s five pro losses have come via finish.

You’ve got to back someone who is known as ‘The Queen of Violence’, even if she’s going up against a ‘Monster’. The undefeated Mandy Bohm comes into this fight with a lot of hype behind her, but she’s never fought a fighter as good as Ariane Lipski. I’m betting on her catching her first L this weekend.

Arman Tsarukyan is one of the best young prospects in the UFC, let alone the lightweight division. Hence his insanely high number on the board for this Saturday’s fight against Christos Giagos. He should have no trouble dispatching his opponent, but I’m probably not bothering with a number this high.

A classic striker vs grappler matchup here, so of course I’m backing the striker in Joaquin Buckley. The fact that he is younger and has a three-inch reach advantage is just icing on the cake.

Gravely — the CES Bantamweight champion — earned a UFC contract and extended his finishing streak to seven by stopping Ray Rodriguez on “Contender Series.” Though he suffered a submission loss to Brett Johns in his Octagon debut, he’s since gotten back on track with consecutive wins over Geraldo de Freitas and Anthony Birchak.

Emily Whitmire is a three year UFC vet with four fights under her belt, going 2-2 in that time. That said, the losses have come against legitimate BJJ black belts in Amanda Ribas and Polyana Viana, Whitmire is simply wildly more effective when she is the superior grappler. Even going back to her time on the Ultimate Fighter, her losses came to Gillian Robertson and Roxanne Modafferi. Whitmire has been in there with some of the best grapplers the UFC has to offer. Her current opponent, Hannah Goldy certainly does not fall under that umbrella. Whitmire will not have a striking advantage in this fight, but she will be the superior grappler and better wrestler. Goldy will have a shot at defending the takedowns of Whitmire, but if she doesn’t Whitmire will have a massive edge on the floor and will be able to control and hunt submissions.

Goldy has been very underwhelming in the octagon thus far. She is a striker and has some bright spots to her game, but does not have the look of a complete or dominant fighter, once looking past her extremely impressive physique. Her lead head kick flicks up very fast and she does have success with it, but there appears to be very little power behind it. Her opponents have simply been unaffected by her strikes. If Goldy is able to keep the fight standing, she is in a good spot to earn a decision and her first UFC win, but it is unlikely she is able to accomplish that feat.
