BEST OF THE BEST

It was called the “Best of the Best” and there was no doubt about that. With Bill Curtis and the Robb Report in charge of the festivities, would you expect anything less?

When is the last time you sipped champagne in the cushy leather seat of a Gulfstream jet, got behind the wheel of a $5 million Rolls Royce prototype or tried on a $2 million yellow-diamond necklace at a cocktail party? But we did, all to benefit the Children’s Lifesaving Foundation.

Several hundred chicly dressed folk flocked to the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica for a truly swellegant time. Hangar Eight was turned into a big-bucks shopping mall with enough bling, high-end autos, pricey threads and top-of-the-line toys to send Diddy into a daze.

“It’s very Robb Report,” Curtis told The Malibu Times. “We have 600 friends who are here to see the best cars, drink the best whiskey, smoke the best cigars and open their wallets for a good cause.”

And Curtis brought lots of his Malibu pals. David Foster was busy eyeing a case full of million dollar rock candy and watches. “What’s on your wish list?” I asked. Without missing a beat, Dave directed me straight to the steps of the G4.

“Right there,” he said pointing to the cabin, “That’s my dream!” Well, it’s a good thing Christmas is right around the corner.

The cocktail area was decked out with suede modular furniture, Lucite tables and elegant arrangements of roses, Casablanca lilies, exotics and water reeds. As for the dress code, this bunch was styling, showing off Armani suits, flowy Cavalli frocks, Berkin bags and custom-studded jeans. Snacking on baby lamb chops and spicy shrimp, the couture-loving clan struggled to maintain its composure in this treasure trove of treats.

I tried on a relatively modestly sized, but beautiful, pink micro pave ring. How much for this 1.4-carat sparkler? “Four hundred eighty-five thousand dollars,” the jeweler said, “But for you, $285,000.” Now that’s what I call a media discount!

Eventually we had to leave this pricey paradise and make our way to dinner where Robb revelers joined Jane Seymour and Michael Chiklis for a first-class feast featuring filet mignon with black truffle sauce, Cornish game hen spiked with Calvados and lobster cakes dressed with aioli.

The live-auction items included goodies like the new BMW 3251, a monster cable entertainment center and a week aboard a 106-foot yacht complete with captain and crew.

Dave was at his impressive best and even got someone to shell out 10 grand to hear Barry Bonds do an off-key rendition of “Happy Birthday.” This year’s “Best of the Best Humanitarian Award” went to Mr. Chiklis in recognition for his ongoing support of CLF, which provides medical services and outreach programs to low-income and at-risk youth.

The evening wrapped up with performances by Dave and pianist Peter Cincotti, while comedian Elon Gold had the last laugh.

The evening raised more than $400,000. Now that’s rich!
