MHS surf team drowns competition

The Malibu High and Middle School surf teams dominated at Saturday’s ISF meet in Santa Monica. High school surfers Britlyn Coleman, Cloe Seaman and Sophie Sarlo finished in second, fourth and fifth place respectively in the women’s longboard competition. Seaman also finished second in the women’s shortboard event. Alex Greenberg finished in sixth place in the men’s shortboard category.

Middle school surfer Brianna “Nani” Coleman finished first in the young women’s longboard competition and her teammate, Maya Armony, placed fourth. In the young women’s shortboard category, Chandler Parr and Terence Seaman finished first and fourth respectively. Adian Armony finished fifth in young men’s shortboard while Brodie Stevens and Trevor Robbins finished fourth and fifth place respectively.

Pepperdine women’s volleyball team spiked

Santa Clara ended Pepperdine University’s run in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament with a 3-0 victory Friday night. The Waves fell behind early in the first game and never fully recovered the rest of the match. Freshman Julie Rubenstein and sophomore Lecca Roberts led the way with 11 and 10 kills respectively for Pepperdine, which finished the season with a 19-12 record overall.

Pepperdine men’s basketball continues losing ways

Colorado State kept the Pepperdine University men’s basketball team’s losing streak alive with a 71-56 victory Saturday night. The Rams held the Waves to 29 percent from the field and set a school record with 12 blocked shots. Freshman Michael Gerrity led the Waves in scoring with 17 points and senior Tashaan Forehan-Kelly chipped in an additional 12.

Pepperdine women’s basketball salvages a split

Pepperdine University ended a five game losing streak with a 70-56 victory over San Diego State on Saturday night. The Waves used a 15-0 second-half run to blow the game wide open and lock up their second victory of the season. Sophomores Daphanie Kennedy and Teiosha George led a balanced scoring attack with 17 points apiece. On Thursday night, UCLA held Pepperdine to 32 percent shooting and forced 29 turnovers in a 95-56 Bruin victory.
