Walk for fire victims

Sponsors are being sought for a large community event that will raise money for the victims of the recent Southern California fires and the Los Angeles County Fire Department Public Education Fund. Taking place on Dec. 6 at the Malibu High School athletic track, the event includes a 1-mile walk, with the participants raising money through sponsors. The Malibu High School Key Club and the Boys & Girls Club are putting it on. Actor John Savage is chairing the event.

There will also be a raffle to win a $5,000 tipi and a silent auction to raise more money. The event organizers are looking for people and local businesses to help through financial donations, sponsorship and support at the silent auction by donating items and gift certificates.

Many other festivities are planned for the day, including a variety of planned exhibits, food concessions, popcorn from Deputy Bob from the Malibu/ Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station and different forms of live entertainment. Booth exhibitors selling products are asked to donate 20 percent of their proceeds to the fund, and all donations are tax-exempt.

Other enjoyable aspects of this gathering include face painting, henna tattooing, a fire department prevention and awareness booth, and special entertainment that has yet to be finalized.

Those wishing to contribute to the event with donations and silent-auction gift certificates can send them to Malibu High School Fire Fund, attention Mrs. Costanza, 30215 Morning View Drive, Malibu, CA 90265. Silent-auction items should be dropped off at the school.

People can register for the walk or make monetary donations by logging on to the Web site, www.firefundwalk.com. Those with questions should send them to info@firefundwalk.com.
