Malibu High baseball’s record-setting season (22-3) continued rolling last week as the team clinched the Frontier League title in unorthodox fashion — a forfeit by the opposition. But before Villanova Prep forfeited its game against Malibu High on Friday, Malibu jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the third inning when Chase Lambert stole two bases and scored on a wild pitch and that was followed by Dylan Ross scoring on Bronson Bard’s sacrifice fly.

The Sharks took the 2-1 lead into the bottom of the inning and as Villanova was ready to hit in the bottom third, a fight broke out in their dugout between a Villanova player and another Villanova student, forfeiting the game.

The Sharks previously beat Villanova 24-3 on Wednesday and Friday’s victory completes a three-game sweep over the Wildcats, moving the Sharks to 22-3 on the year and more importantly, 12-1 in conference play, which secures the 2013 Frontier League Conference championship. It’s the Sharks’ first league title since 2006.

The Sharks are currently ranked No. 2 in CIF Division VI, no. 5 in Division V, and have two more games this week against Carpinteria before CIF playoffs begin the following.

Tuesday against Carpinteria is senior day in which Frank Thomas, Alvie Alvarado and Riley Mcmillin will be honored before the game for their years of service to the Malibu program.
