Tom Fakehany’s letter is an example of distortions that provide no documentation of their claims. The writer should be required to provide evidence of his statements. Often it is impossible to know what the writer refers to. There are no dates or specifics, making it difficult to respond, which I’m sure is intentional. The following can be addressed as examples of the distortions.
1. To my knowledge there never was an offer from state parks to give the city Bluffs Park. It’s hard to believe they ever would but, if they did, why on earth would I turn it down and who does he blame for the other two votes it takes for any Council action? 2. I have always supported funds for schools. The city’s ability to provide funding depends on the budget at the time. 3. I opposed the Lunita condos at every point, including voting for an appeal based on health and safety reasons in support of the community, which failed on a 2 to 3 council vote. No offer of six homes in lieu of the 38 Lunita condo project occurred while I was on the Council. One and a half years after I left the Council, during a General Plan hearing on Sept. 25, 1995, Councilmember Harlow made a motion for two-acre zoning, which would have provided three homes on the six acres. It did not receive a second.
4. I did not vote “no” to reopening Kanan. The city did not have the funds to make the repairs. I did want the county to share the cost of repairs since they built the road. They did not, and that cost the city $1 million. 5. I fully supported the Mobile Home Rent Control Ordinance approved by the city. This is a very complicated issue that was active for years. It is impossible to make one statement about it. 6. No LCP – not any of the city’s three drafts, nor the Coastal Commission-adopted LCP – came before the council while I was a member.
