Mike Monahan died on Oct. 30. He was 77.

Monahan was born July 26, 1929 in San Jose, Calif. to Philip and Esther Wilson. At age 2, He moved with his parents and grandmother to Carmel, where he spent the remainder of his childhood.

At age 11, Monahan and his friends started a newspaper called The Scoop, which relatives say was the first newspaper in Northern California to report on the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He continued with the newspaper for several years.

Monahan attended Carmel High School, where he formed the basketball and football teams, was on the Student Council and produced several shows with friends at the Forest Theatre. He graduated in 1948. Monahan attended Santa Clara University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English.

He was a chaplain’s assistant in the Navy in San Diego. During that time, he was an actor at the Globe Theatre.

Monahan married Sherry Rodgers, and they had four children. They later divorced. He soon moved to the Los Angeles area to continue his acting career. He appeared in television shows such as “Father Knows Best,” “Starsky & Hutch,” “Sugarfoot” and many others. Monahan created several theater groups in the area.

In 1967, he married Ann Dickinson Stobie. The couple formed The Horizon Players in Simi Valley. In 1980, they began the Showboat Troupe Inc., also housing the Showboat Youtheatre and Showboat Dinner Theatre, which ran for years on Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills.

Monahan is survived by his wife, Ann; his children, Shannon, Sean, Quinn, Brian, Tracy, Terry, Tyler and Tod; and his grandchildren, Michael, Jillian, Jessica, Nick, Caiti, Jonny, Anthea, Jakob and Elijah. In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations the Mike Monahan Showboat Scholarship Fund at 505 Live Oak Circle, Calabasas, CA 91302
