LADIES LIGHT UP THE SCREEN

If it’s June, it means the splashy Women in Film bash is right around the corner. This year’s festivities will take place on Tues., June 12 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Every year, WIF has honored exemplary women in the entertainment industry who excel in their craft.

2012 Women in Film Crystal and Lucy Awards will be turning to some well-known names and familiar faces.

Viola Davis will receive the Crystal Award for Excellence in Film, Bonnie Hammer will be presented with the Lucy Award for Excellence in Television. Christina Applegate will be handed the Norma Zarky Humanitarian Award, while Chloe Grace Moretz will be toasted as Max Mara’s Face of the Future.

Women in Film prez Cathy Schulman had words of praise for this year’s honorees. “The women we are honoring this year represent the best, the brightest and the bravest among us,” Schulman said. “We are proud to celebrate their achievements and their contributions.”

Iris Grossman, president emeritus of Women in Film, Los Angeles, who is returning this year as chair of the awards, said, “Viola, Bonnie and Christina exemplify women whose determination, courage and vision have shaped their careers and inspired us all.”

Davis was nominated for an Oscar, a Golden Globe and BAFTA award for her powerful performance in “The Help.” Along the way she picked up SAG and Critic’s Choice Awards. She also recently starred with Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock in “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.”
