It is good that people of different political beliefs assemble and protest as MoveOn.org members are doing on Webb Way, and apparently getting a lot of “honks of support.” However, Ted Vaill, the coordinator of this ongoing event, also tells us that there is “a scattering of raised middle fingers and shouts of ‘traitor’ from tattooed guys in Hummers, heading to the Valley.”
So it seems anyone who has an opposing view from Mr. Vaill’s MoveOn.org is an irrational Neanderthal, from a lesser place, whose opinions, therefore, have no merit. I find Mr. Vaill’s comments to be a fine example of intellectual and moral vanity. Proving that if you move far enough to the left, you find yourself on the extreme right where the treatment of Neanderthals, or sub-humans, can be dealt with expeditiously.
In a related matter, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution, widely supported by both sides of the aisle, condemning MoveOn.org’s television commercial attacking General Petraeus personally. The Democratic leadership called the ad “distasteful and quite frankly below the level of respect that America’s commanding general in Iraq has earned.”
I suppose the moral of the story is, be careful who you honk for, it might turn out to be quite a different Duck than you thought.
