Margot Landon Visher, former Malibu resident, died March 11 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was 84.
Visher was born Jan. 22, 1927 in Newark, N.J. and spent her childhood in Orange, N.J. In 1948 she graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and moved westward to teach, first in Minneapolis, M.N., then in San Francisco. She married Paul Visher in 1952 and the pair spent the next 30 years in Malibu raising their family. The couple moved to Cannon Beach, Ore. after retirement. Visher’s husband died in 2003.
Visher volunteered her time extensively to her community. She was involved with many organizations including Planned Parenthood, Adult Literacy in Los Angeles, the Great Books program and the Red Cross blood drive. She was also a member and president of the PTA at numerous schools, the president of the Cannon Beach Library and was involved with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Visher is survived by her partner Fred Carter, her children Peggy Visher, of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Sally Visher and husband Joe Cohen, of Tualatin, Ore., John Visher of Malibu, David Visher and wife Sandy, of Malibu, her 14 grandchildren, her brother Dick Landon and wife Carol, her sister Lisa and husband John Hewitt, all of Williamsburg, Va. Her brother Whitney Landon died earlier this year.
A celebration of life will take place May 28 at Visher’s home, 528 Ash St. in Cannon Beach, at 5 p.m.
