Elaine Adele Hunt, 78, a longtime Malibu resident and real estate agent, passed away in her home on Oct. 21 after an 11-year battle with breast cancer.
She was born on Aug. 9, 1936, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Al and Jennie Aftoora. She attended Kent State University where she graduated in 1958 with a degree in teaching. After college, she moved to Los Angeles where she worked in Santa Monica as an analyst for Systems Data Corporation.
Hunt married the late Bill Hunt in 1962 and they moved to Malibu in 1973 with their four children. She earned her real estate license in 1978 and was a successful real estate agent in Malibu for almost 30 years.
“One of her passions was cooking for her family and she was a wonderful cook,” a loved one said. “The most important part of her life was her children and grandchildren. She was a constant source of love and support to those who were closest to her.”
One of the happiest times in Hunt’s life was this summer when she attended a family reunion in Malibu and was with all her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, their spouses and seven grandchildren: Monte, Marie and Matthew Hunt of Malibu; Brandon, Sandy, Riley and Connor Hunt of Portsmouth, R.I.; Grady, Terry, Tyler and Isabelle Hunt of San Mateo; and Jennifer Hunt Armatis and Michael, Xander and Peyton Armatis of Brentwood. Also surviving Elaine are her brothers: Charles Aftoora of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; Gary Aftoora of Boulder City Nev.; Albert Aftoora of San Pedro.
A viewing will take place on Nov. 1 at 12 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, followed by a celebratory Mass at 1 p.m.
Donations in her honor may be made to the John Wayne Cancer Institute at St. John’s Health Center Foundation in Santa Monica.
