Christmas in March? Flame-haired Julianne Moore strikes out with a cherry red gown and a brilliant emerald green necklace at the Bulgari collection event.

Congrats to CBS bigwig Leslie Moonves, who was honored with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame Award for excellence in television. The award was presented by locals Mary Steenburgen and hubby Ted Danson.

This year’s roster was an impressive one, including legendary actor and director Ron Howard, veteran sportscaster Al Michaels, “Meet the Press” mainstay Bob Shieffer, also known as the “Brad Pitt of Southern Florida” by swooning retirees. Rounding out the list was Dick Wolf and a posthumous award for the late Philo T. Farnsworth.

More bling

More awards, more gems, more dazzle and more fashion. It’s a wrap for the Oscars, but as they say, the show must go on. A-list stars were able to get a private peek at some of the most coveted gems around during Oscar week and beyond.

Special guests were invited to view an impressive collection with many jaw-dropping pieces that once belonged to style queen Elizabeth Taylor. The Roman-themed dinner and celebration drew some of Hollywood’s biggest names who were more than happy to turn themselves into jewelry models for a night. Julianne Moore, a head-turning siren in bright red, was adorned with a stunning necklace and pendant featuring 16 Colombian step-cut emeralds with a total of 60.5 carats. It was easy to see that Ms. Liz loved her gems, and the bigger the better.

“It’s such a beautiful piece,” Moore said, “but to be able to wear something with so much sentimental value, I think it is just a privilege to wear something like this.”

Recent Oscar nominee Naomi Watts also found herself entranced in the magical scene, saying, “To get a glimpse of old Hollywood and old glamour and then hearing the stories about how these jewels were worn … It’s fantastic!”

More movie scene

The Cannes Film Festival gets underway in a few weeks. The prestigious fest has decided to open with Baz Luhrmann’s remake of “The Great Gatsby.” The move raised a few eyebrows, considering the film will be making its world premiere a few days earlier, and the French fest always prides itself on showcasing a world premiere all its own.

No matter where it screens first, the film has plenty of pulling power. Local Leonardo DiCaprio stars as complex Mr. Gatsby in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s literary masterpiece. Also look for Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson, Toby Maguire as Nick Carraway and Jason Clarke as George Wilson.

In the meantime, Leo seems to be having himself a grand old time filming the upcoming “The Wolf of Wall Street.” See you at the movies.
