Malibu gets ready to ring in 2009

From Mexican fare to French cuisine, or a musical fundraiser to opportunities of an ocean view to kiss your loved one in front of at midnight, a variety of venues and tastes are in store Jan. 31 for celebrators ready to ring in the New Year.

At Casa Escobar Malibu at Cross Creek Road, they’ll be rockin’ in the New Year with live music by Lenny Goldsmith, formerly of Tower of Power, and Malibu locals Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, formerly of the local band Simon Dawes, as well as special guest to be announced. A special holiday prix fixe menu and live music can be enjoyed right on the oceanfront at Geoffrey’s Malibu on New Year’s Eve. Diners will have a choice of six offerings for the first and second courses, as well as three desserts from which to choose. The first seating is from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and cost $75 for adults, $53 for children under 10. The second seating is from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and cost $125 for adults, $58 for children. Daniel and Luciana Forge of BeauRivage are “turning back the clock” with a special New Year’s Eve menu that costs only $50. Dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to midnight, and dancing to live music by Tony Michaels and his band will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

A great way to celebrate the coming of the New Year and raise funds for a good cause takes place at the Gillespie estate on New Year’s Eve, raising funds for the Malibu Symphony Orchestra. Cocktails and dinner catered by Jennifer Naylor are included in the cost of $165 per person. It’s a small party, limited to 50 at the Gillespie estate, so RSVP early, no later than Dec. 24. 310.457.7789

The Sunset Restaurant is offering two seatings for their New Year’s Eve celebrations. The first, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., cost $55 and includes a three-course dinner featuring a choice of lobster, Cornish game hen, filet of beef or black ruffle risotto for the second course. The second seating from 8: p.m. to 9:30 p.m. includes a grand five courses and cost $85.
