Malibu Stage Repertory will present the comedy musical “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro, music by Jimmy Roberts and directed by Richard Johnson, beginning Oct. 30 at the Malibu Stage Company.

“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” was originally produced by the American Stage Company in Teaneck, New Jersey and opened in New York City at the Westside Theatre in 1996. Off-Broadway’s second longest running, smash hit musical comedy celebrates the triumphs and trials of the modern-day mating game and has been described as “Seinfeld set to music.” It’s a hilarious look at love and relationships that is touching, insightful and humorous.

The local production features a cast of many locals, guest performers and live musicians, including Mariza Lee Coetzee, Shawn Cortel, Alixzandra Dove, Bonnie Frank, Gigi Goyette, Julia Holland, Carolyn Hunter, Diane Peterson, Brian Pietro, Jay Tando and Regina Wilson.

The New York revue about love and marriage in the suburbs has grossed more than $200 million, according to the producers, and productions have been mounted in more than 500 cities, including Taipei, Tel Aviv, Rio de Janeiro and Sydney. It has been translated into 12 languages; a Chinese version played in New York last year.

“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” opens Friday, Oct. 30 and runs through Nov. 22. Shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. Tickets for all shows are $35. Reservations and information can be obtained by calling the box office at 310.589.1998 or online at www.brownpapertickets.com.
