On Friday morning, March 12, sirens were flying up PCH towards the high school. The incident (which I only read about) involved a teenage driver who was seriously injured on this busy stretch of highway adjacent to Zuma Beach. The accident made me again wonder why concrete barriers, which used to separate the highway in that area, were ever removed. It is all too common, especially in the summer, for drivers to make sudden illegal U-turns in the middle of PCH while eyeing that perfect parking spot.
There are areas along the highway that are divided by upright, flexible poles, and I’ve often seen drivers wait to pass those poles to then make their illegal U-turns perhaps wrongly thinking, if the dividers aren’t here it must be OK. As a community, we need to do everything we can to ensure our safety. And while I’m at it, whatever happened to the discussion about putting a light at Corral Canyon and PCH, another major place for accidents. There’s no point living in paradise if you can’t safely navigate through it.
