Urges change to ‘no’

The following was sent to Sen. Fran Pavley

Thanks for sending me your newsletter. This supporter of yours does not like to see you lose your credibility with Malibu residents over your not going on record as opposing bulldozing, dredging of Malibu Lagoon or at least supporting postponement of the start of the demolition until the end of summer. The goals are to obviate the chaos and peril of hundreds of trucks on PCH when hundreds of thousands of visitors come to Malibu to enjoy the beaches. It would also give the public additional few months to look at the bulldozing and dredging proposal and the scientific facts behind it presented by the USGS.

I spoke to Stephanie Molen recently, one of your field representatives regarding your pro stand on bulldozing of the lagoon position. Unfortunately, it appears you have taken the same political position as Heal the Bay, Baykeepers and the pro bulldozing/dredging developers and seem unaware that so many of your constituents are opposed to the bulldozing. Ultimately we were referred to another state agency for more detailed information. I sent you an email requesting that you change your position or at the very least postpone any bulldozing until after the summer to give the public more time to be educated on the issue. I encourage everyone to send you an email at senator.pavley@senate.ca.gov.

You have been sent copies of letters from the Malibu Township Council and Pam Ulich and you have been informed of the position of the Malibu Democratic Club; all protesting the bulldozing and dredging. Hopefully you will consider the needs of the public, this community and the will of your [former] supporters. Please reconsider your position and join us by sending a letter to the Governor protesting massive bulldozing and dredging now.

Daniel D. Hillman
