Birding with the stars at Malibu Lagoon State Beach

Nestled just below Malibu Colony on Pacific Coast Highway lies a little piece of paradise-Malibu Lagoon State Beach.

Here, where Malibu Creek empties into an estuary that is bordered by a narrow sand bar at Surfrider Beach (just a stone’s throw from the “Hollywood” homes to the west), I spent about 30 days off and on over a three-month period. During these magical days in the golden California sunshine, I recorded about 50 bird species with my digital camera-a Canon EOS Digital Rebel 300D with a Tamron AF 200-400mm f/5.6 lens and a Tamron 2X teleconverter mounted on it.
