I will be appalled if the final plans for The Trancas Shopping Center do not include Trancas Nursery and Sea Lily. The nursery is an all-natural, beautifully rustic, local gem. There is no word to describe it other than magical. It embodies what is right in this world, natural, quiet places where the Earth is honored.
It is a place where generations come to learn about the Earth and its inhabitants. It is a place that engenders a sense of community. It is a place where respect, history, family and grace abound. Debbie, Shelby, Carlos, Caytlyn and Kate have created this beautiful environment and for their sake, for ours and for our future generations, we must preserve this land, this local business, this community center.
I urge the owners to do the right thing. When initially selling their plans, they had promised the nursery would stay. (Malibu Times, April 14, 2009) Bercu also confirmed that existing Trancas Market tenants, such as Malibu Garden Center, will remain. Now thousands of our residents have come together to hold them accountable to their earlier statements.
Perhaps I am a dreamer, but I believe in the human spirit and I know these developers have a soul too. Anyone with a soul, appreciation for our Earth, and an open heart could not stomach the loss of such a treasure. I look forward to the day when they and their families join us for egg hunts and community barbecues at the nursery.
