Love was in the air at Bank of Books on Saturday, Feb. 13 for a Valentine’s Day storytime.
Mr. Steve (Malibu local Steve Posey) — a favorite storytime reader of the children and their families — read three stories to the children: “Here Comes Valentine Cat” by Deborah Underwood, “Love from the Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle and “Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse!” by Laura Numeroff Board.
Children got cozy on an assortment of colorful blankets while listening to stories about cats, dogs, mice and caterpillars that featured lessons about getting along and learning how to show their love.
Following the reading, children received a Valentine’s Day card from Bank of Books manager Pam Eilerson and Mr. Steve, and then they created their own Valentine card to give away.
“It was so much fun to see the kids making their Valentines,” Eilerson said. “They really got creative with the crayons and stickers.”
At the beginning of February, Bank of Books announced that the Malibu store will close at the end of April.
“Mr. Steve says he will miss reading to the kids at storytime — he’s trying to think of a way to continue his weekly readings after the store closes,” Eilerson shared
Depite the upcoming closure, Bank of Books continues to have a full schedule of events on the calendar. Saturday morning storytime will continue with readings by Mr. Steve, special guests and themed events.
“We are planning a week-long going away party,” Eilerson shared. “We have author events scheduled until mid-April, we will continue our storytimes until the store closes and we have one last big blowout Coffeehouse scheduled for April 9.”
