Get out of passing lane

“Keep Right, Pass Left, It’s the Law” and “Lane Courtesy” are still being ignored on PCH, causing traffic congestion and road rage. If you think it’s preposterous-and dangerous-then maybe you should question the impeding traffic laws, MIT and the National Motorists Association.

I think the suggestion of “tanking” to try to slow everyone down is preposterous-and dangerous-and proven to be.

Last year, I spoke about this issue to the city council, the Public Safety Commission, A Safer PCH and I e-mailed all the traffic reporters on the local TV and radio stations and print media. Only one, The Malibu Times, re-printed an e-mail I sent to A Safer PCH as a guest editorial to help promote the National Motorist’s Association “June is Lane Courtesy Month” to get vehicle drivers to keep right, pass left and make PCH safer.

Did it do anything? Not much since the other entities I contacted said anything about it. But, if all the traffic reporters put in a plug each morning, like “Remember, show lane courtesy: Keep right, pass left, it’s the law,” and the safety committee recommended getting the traffic police to ticket more often, then we’ll see a safer PCH.

Please write anyone you know in these organizations to encourage the general vehicular driving public to observe this law. I suggest that the police start to ticket people for impeding traffic and misusing the passing lane. It would generate more revenue than speeding tickets and make PCH much safer and less congested.

To anyone in the passing lane, if you are not passing then get out of the passing lane!
