Passion realized

I would like to add my voice to the many who remember Timothy Treadwell and the work he did to protect not only the bears of Alaska, but wildlife all over the world. I saw him give a talk at the Times Festival of Books some years ago and, knowing that your marvelous Malibu paper would know how to reach him, called the editor who gave me his number. Timothy and I became great friends, and he did many presentations for not only classrooms of children, but for groups of adults all over Los Angeles. He was truly a remarkable person with a gift that really could not be explained; he was magical. A good friend of his, Terry Taminen from the conservation agency Environment Now, said to me this morning, “You can’t mourn a life which was so well lived.” That is true. Timothy had found his passion. He will leave a legacy of respect and appreciation for wildlife and wild places in the hearts of every person, young and old, who heard him speak.
