Jack Wyan

Jack Wyan, a retired captain from the Los Angeles Fire Department, died on July 15 at age 75 while hiking Trancas Canyon. He was born William Jack Wyan in Winchester, Ind. on July 26, 1928 and grew up in Culver City. Wyan joined the LAFD Jan. 28, 1957 and retired in July of 1987. He married Miriam Noble Sept. 7, 1984. He was a 20-year resident and tireless supporter of the community of Malibu.

People were the center of Wyan’s world. Those close to him say he never knew a stranger. He volunteered as a team leader for Arson Watch and for the last three years served as a board member for FAWDS. (Friends of Arson Watch and Disaster Services, Inc.)

Wyan is survived by his wife, Miriam, and his son, Peter Semmelmeier. An outdoor memorial service to celebrate his life will take place on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Malibu Racquet Club, which is located at 23847 Stuart Ranch Road. The phone number is 456.3313. The attire is casual.
