In what has become an ominous normality in recent weeks, the Malibu Search and Rescue Team was called to the rock pool area of Malibu Creek State Park on Tuesday evening to rescue a man who broke his leg when he jumped into the water.
A call came in at 5:15 p.m. for the 23-year-old male from Ladera Heights, who suffered the break when he hit a large boulder.Â
“The man was treated by paramedics, loaded into a SAR team rescue litter and evacuated out of the rugged back country to an awaiting ambulance,” according to SAR spokesman and team leader David Katz. Authorities from California State Parks and the LA County Sheriff’s Department assisted on the call as well.
This was the 74th rescue call of the year for the Malibu SAR team, and one of several that have taken place at the rock pool in recent weeks. Last month, a female rock climber was rescued after suffering an ankle injury. In June, another climber shattered several bones in a fall.Â
