Malibuites to conduct, perform in orchestra

Longtime Malibu resident Gary S. Greene conducts the Jr. Philharmonic Orchestra’s anniversary celebration.

The Jr. Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates its 74th anniversary with a performance conducted by longtime Malibu resident Gary S. Greene June 5. Locals Alissa Myer, on the flute, Alena Kaye, on the French horn, and Steven Ravaglioli, on the solo trumpet, will perform in the orchestra. The anniversary celebration will feature classical favorites and show music.

The Jr. Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1937 by Dr. Ernst Katz, a Malibu resident who served as founder and conductor for more than seven decades until he died in 2009.

The 74th anniversary celebration takes place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 135 North Grand Ave., in Los Angeles, at 7 p.m. More information can be obtained by calling 310.275.7511.
