The Malibu Film Society (MFS) recently completed its year-long upgrade of the Malibu Screening Room at the Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue. A new digital cinema projector, a 21’-wide Cinemascope-format screen and a 5500-watt, 5.2-channel all-digital surround sound system were all part of the upgrades. Three front-channel ultra-wide coverage loudspeakers by JBL Professional were also installed.

To showcase the new system, MFS is hosting a free, communitywide screening event this Saturday at 7 p.m. to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the 2000 Academy Award winner for best picture, “Gladiator.” In addition to the screening, Academy Award-winning producer, writer and Malibu local David Franzoni will participate in a Q&A with the audience.

Screening room doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and reservations are required through the MFS website, malibufilmsociety.org.
