Local author and war veteran Flamey Damian recently released a new book, “The Gentle Hearts of Foreign Flags: Endurance and Survival.” The book tells of a family in a small German-occupied town in Northern Italy attempting to keep daily life as normal as possible despite being caught in the crossfire of World War II. “Gentle Hearts” is based on the true story of a family in war-torn Yugoslavia. Damian is also the author of “Irongrip (Mind)” and “The Heavenly and the Wild.”
