Mayor Jeff Jennings opened the Monday City Council meeting with a proclamation honoring the heroic efforts born of the September attacks, dedicating Sept. 11 as “Always Remember 9-11 Day.”

He asked for a moment of silence.

Jennings said “every fire station in town” will be open to residents for an observance at 8:46 a.m. Across the country, bells will peal and observances will be made at this time (local times), when the first plane hit the towers.

An ecumenical service is scheduled at Our Lady of Malibu Catholic Church at noon.

Pepperdine’s “We Remember” service begins at 5:30 a.m. at the University Church of Christ, marking the anniversary of the attacks with bell-ringing at the exact (East Coast) times of the attacks.

A multimedia presentation about Sept. 11 with music and images will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Malibu Vineyard Christian Fellowship theater.

At the Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue, a special Shabbat service is planned for 7:30 p.m. to honor the anniversary of Sept. 11.
