Lorraine ‘Rainy’ Fechtman

Longtime Malibu area resident Lorraine F. Fechtman died Sept. 27 following a brief illness. She was 60.

Fechtman, called “Rainy” by friends and family, was born on May 27, 1946 in Indianapolis, where she was raised and graduated from Warren Central High School in 1962. Following graduation, Fechtman moved to Ventura and began a 25-year career in the banking industry, beginning with Bank of America and concluding as an operations officer with Great Western in Malibu.

Fechtman had a second career as the owner and operator of Rainy’s Place, a well-known dog kennel and grooming establishment in the Malibu area. She was an avid advocate of animal rights and active in various organizations such as Malibu Pet Companions and SPCA.

Fechtman is survived by her sisters Joanne Ricketts, Janice Wilkinsin (and her husband Dr. Ralph Wilkinsin), Linda Patterson (and her husband Dan); brother Dr. James Fechtman and several nieces and nephews. Fechtman is preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Helen Fechtman, and her brother, Paul Fechtman.

A celebration of Fechtman’s life took place on Tuesday at Pierce Brothers Griffin Memorial Chapel in Camarillo, followed by a burial at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.
