Downed Wires at Sunset and PCH

UPDATE, 5 p.m.: Lanes in both directions of PCH have been reopened at Sunset Boulevard, ABC7 reports.

UPDATE, 12:30 p.m.: Eastbound traffic is now being diverted on Topanga Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

“Diversions may be in place until 3 p.m.,” according to a City of Malibu alert.

Westbound PCH traffic is being stopped and diverted at Temescal Canyon Road.

A set of smoking, damaged power lines caused the abrupt closure of Pacific Coast Highway at Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades on Tuesday morning.

The closure occurred around 11 a.m. Westbound traffic was rerouted around the intersection and back onto PCH, while eastbound traffic was diverted on Sunset and forced to take alternate routes. The damaged lines are located on the oceanside of the roadway near Moonshadows Restaurant.

No timeframe has been set as to when the roadway will fully reopen. Rain poured all morning and is expected to continue for most of the day. The LA City Fire Department was on scene, along with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Approximately 400 customers were affected by the outage.
