Harder fight needed

To say I’m extremely disappointed in this now (apparently) after the fact lagoon situation is an understatement. I’m informed that bulldozers are down there now, plowing the channels.

This situation is beyond deplorable for how our City Council did not comport itself or act, or jump in at the necessary moments to save the iconic centerpiece of our storied town, its animals, the sacred paths…and a key coastal breeding place for many fragile species. Simply stated—the Malibu City Council did not fight hard enough for our treasure and you let us down.

I know Mayor Laura Rosenthal has lots to do, and a home life and a career as well. I know she is not a magician and cannot make unenviable situations such as this one disappear at will. But I feel the City Council and all its members—including Skylar who was absentee in every way at the City Council meeting last Monday—and especially the two-faced Sibert—were uniformly, total failures when faced with this conspicuous disaster and its clear mismanagement by an utterly inept and irresponsible division of State Parks.

Laura Rosenthal has some great qualities as a leader, but this debacle will certainly not go down as a bright and shining moment for her—or for any of us. Especially not for the thousands of defenseless animals now being slaughtered.

I pray to God that we can do better next time we are faced with an enemy and an intruder like this, a devil at our town gates, who was allowed to enter and to kill at will.
