I happened into the theater of the One Act Plays Festival early several weeks ago, and was surprised to see such august figures as Michael Preece on “Broom,” Guy Waldron on “dustpan,” Paul Almond on “mop,” and finally Billy Graham on “vacuum cleaner.” What a “band of brothers.” Not only were they directing plays for us, they were handling the cleaning. I wonder what else they do?
The community pitched in this year, also, to make the festival a success. Local newspapers and cable channels were generous with space; merchants carried our posters in their windows; the Malibu Country Inn even loaned us a rollaway bed for a prop and, as in past years, participating Malibu restaurants gave playgoers a discount on dinner on show night.
I personally loved the experience, and salute the many actors, volunteers, stage crew and box office personnel who worked so hard to bring such a spirited, and moral play-going experience to us here in Malibu.
