Photos: CANVAS Hosts Gabriel Gimenez Exhibit

CANVAS Malibu, a contemporary art gallery and boutique located in the Malibu Country Mart, is featuring artist Gabriel ‘GG’ Gimenez’s work, “Transitions.” GG is a young artist from Miami, Florida that CANVAS owner’s Arlington and Jacqueline Forbes had the opportunity to meet.

”We immediately fell in love with the ‘Fado’ character and his various ventures and manifestation” Jacqueline Forbes said as she described GG’s work. Forbes goes on to say, “GG is young and has a uniquely fresh perspective. He is still focused on his voice and perspective through his art. He has the beginnings of being well-collected world-wide, while still being affordable.”

A unique aspect of the CANVAS gallery is the opportunity for each featured artist to paint a mural on the wall outside of the boutique. Forbes said, “Malibu Country Mart has allowed our exterior wall as one of the first sanctioned walls committed for public works in Malibu.” GG spent time Monday afternoon painting one of his characters on the wall outside of CANVAS, which has since been removed, but his work will continued to be featured in CANVAS through mid-August.

Forbes said, “His first exhibition at CANVAS was a year ago. We are proud to bring him back into the gallery this summer for his newest collection.”

Arlington and Jacqueline Forbes want to help support and feature young artist as well as being committed to showing the artistry and design of today.

Artist Gabriel ‘GG’ Gimenez’s “Haring Branded” is being featured at CANVAS through mid August.

“Duckie Spotlight,” along with 11 other pieces, are featured at CANVAS in the Malibu Country Mart.

“Pop Royalty” [Michael Jackson] and “Hip Hop Royalty [Tupac]” are two pieces from GG’s “Transition” collection. CANVAS’ owner Jacqueline Forbes describes GG’s work as “satirical, political, yet fun and colorful”
