The Malibu AYSO Girls U19 team earned the Area 10E title and a trip to sectionals Nov. 12-13 in Bakersfield, where they placed third overall.

This is the second year in a row the team has won the area title, winning 10 of 11 games against teams from nearby cities like Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks and Moorpark. However, last year the team did not have enough participants to compete in sectionals, so the second place team went on to compete instead.

The sectional competition features the best eight teams from 66 cities throughout the region. At this year’s tournament, the Malibu team competed against seven other area teams in five games. The girls won three games, tied one and lost one, placing third in the competition.

“For Malibu to come out third place this 2011 season in sectionals out of 66 cities in the section is outstanding,” team parent Erin Anderson wrote to The Malibu Times. “For the coaches and parents who have been supporting these girls for many years, it is a great accomplishment and we are so proud of our girls.”
