Whether you’d like to honor our nation’s war veterans or take on a marathon, there’s lots going on this weekend around town.

Local businesses, schools and organizations gather to honor the men and women who have served in the United States armed forces Friday at the 12th annual Veterans Day ceremony. The ceremony will kick off at Legacy Park at 11 a.m. and go until 1 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Malibu Chamber of Commerce, the City of Malibu, Pepperdine University and The Malibu Times. Creative Visions Foundation hosts “Safari as a Way of Life,” featuring live music, a new art gallery and a book signing by Kathy Eldon, who wrote the biography “Dan Eldon, Safari as a Way of Life” about her son, at the Dan Eldon Center, 18820 PCH, at 2 p.m. To obtain more information, or RSVP, call 310.456.1109.

Vegas comes to Malibu Saturday night as local nonprofit Mending Kids International hosts its benefit “Casino Night.” The event will feature dancing, games and a performance by Robert Davi to raise funds for the organization. The benefit takes place at the Malibu Jewish Center, 24855 PCH, at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $135. More information can be obtained by calling 818.843.6363.

Athletes take to the streets as the Malibu International Marathon jogs through town Sunday. The Malibu full and half marathons are taking place to raise funds for charity Christopher’s Haven. The marathon starts at Freedom Park, Willis Avenue and Convair Street, in Camarillo, 7 a.m. and the half-marathon starts at Thornhill Broome Beach Campground, 9000 W. PCH, at 8:30 a.m., and both finish at Zuma Beach. More information can be obtained by visiting www.malibuintmarathon.com.

The TEDxMalibu conference takes place Sunday, to explore how to flourish in challenging times.
