Deputies with the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff Station recently acquired approval and funding for helmet-mounted cameras.

Cameras previously stationed on motorcycles and vehicles only provided a small range of interaction with the deputy and motorist involved in routine traffic stops.

The Contour+2 is lightweight with an aero dynamic design, capable of recording HD footage on a wide-angle lens to capture face-to-face details of deputy interactions with motorists.

In addition, cameras can also capture clear images from the deputy’s point-of-view, vehicle occupants, license information as well as the physical surroundings of the area of the traffic stop.

The device is equipped to provide audio of incidents as well, which could prevent issues that arise in the event of motorists disputing citations.

Real-time GPS locators are also a unique feature on the helmet cams and can be used to immediately retrieve information on a suspect or vehicle through a memory card and computer.

Recordings from the cameras are downloaded after each shift and stored at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.

The cameras were funded and acquired through the Malibu/Lost Hills Booster Club.
