It’s a very sad day when nobody in this community is watching out for the quality of design of Malibu’s built environment-not the code-not the planning commission, not the City Council. Very sad, very perplexing, almost shameful!
It is not a question of design style, but simply one of size. It should be a simple matter to require the size of a building be reduced in mass to be closer to the maximum area allowed rather than end up with a structure 50% larger. The issue isn’t the architecture, it’s the code.
The council says it doesn’t have the ability to be a design review body (nor does the planning commission) but admits the code is deficient and there is no interest in revising it. Why then do we have a CUP requirement in the code at all?
For God’s sake, who’s running the store? Sad, very, very sad!
