Malibu Canyon Road will be closed to through traffic nightly for construction, Sunday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Closures begin on Jan. 4 and continue for approximately eight months until August 2015.
The tunnel will remain open at all other times. Nighttime traffic will be detoured onto Kanan Dume Road and Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
The $3 million project includes improvements to the tunnel’s interior lining and roadway repair to enhance comfort and vehicle safety. There will also be water quality benefits with the construction of a vegetated swale, which filters pollutants from stormwater and helps replenish groundwater.
