The issue of an LNG platform off our coast should now be a closed case. Questions raised in a new 3,000 page EIR by the Coast Guard, California State Lands Commission and U.S. Maritime Administration effectively validate everything what the residents of Malibu have been maintaining for months. The evidence is now overwhelming that this platform will obliterate Malibu’s economy by impacting or destroying everything that makes our community a coveted place to live and visit.
Sea life, surf patterns, ocean views, property values and water and air quality would all be impacted, degrading our quality of life and substantially eroding the incentives that attract the tourists and visitors whose summertime dollars sustain our local economy. So to the officials at BHP Billiton, please hear this: If your floating eyesore is so good for California, then please find another location that won’t be so horribly destructive for the lives of coastal residents.
