The Cultural Arts Commission on Tuesday will discuss a proposed mosaic mural for the remodeled Fire Station 71.

The mural will be installed on an outer wall of the station, near Pacific Coast Highway and Wildlife Road. It was designed by local tile artisan, Matt Doolin of Topanga Art Tile, and will depict the Malibu landscape, according to an agenda report.

The project began when the City of Malibu was contacted by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission to participate in a civic art program that works with local communities to commission projects at public buildings, like libraries, parks and fire stations. Doolin was selected to design the mural from more than 50 applicants.

Fire Station 71 is currently being remodeled to increase the size of the facility. Construction is expected to take 10 to 12 months.Â
