Juan Cabrillo fourth grade students join with Olympians Tracy Mattes and Reynoldo Brown and Kids4Trees Naturalist Karen Fortus in celebration of Earth Day.

The Kids4Trees Program, under the direction of Stephen Redner, continued its 2010 planting event schedule with a visit to Juan Cabrillo School to celebrate Earth Day 2010.

The students were divided into three workshop groups that included sessions with an environmentalist, California Olympians and children’s singers leading the students in singing tree songs.

The day’s focus was on the environment and how trees play an important role in the balance of nature. The mission of Kids4Trees is to create young stewards of the forest by educating and empowering children to be an active participant in the environmental concerns of their local community.

More than 30,000 trees will be planted this year as part of the Kids4Trees Program.
