Mavis Staples to Perform at Pepperdine

Pepperdine University Center for the Arts is hosting Grammy-winner Mavis Staples in concert this Saturday, Jan. 25, at 8 p.m.

Staples, who originally rose to fame with her family group the Staples Singers in the 1970s, is known for her deep soulful voice. In addition to being a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Staples has achieved many awards and accolades since her first album was released 45 years ago. Some of these include a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a National Heritage Fellowship award, and spots on VH1’s 100 Greatest Women of Rock and Roll and the Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Singers of All Time lists.

Staples will be perform with her three-piece band and backup singers for the concert at Pepperdine’s Smothers Theatre. For details and ticket information, check out Pepperdine’s Center for the Arts website.
