I always enjoyed reading the letters to the editor section and writing some myself. However, the letters lately have been too full of intolerance and anger for me and I have been in a state of slight shock.
I feel for the woman who wants to run with her kids down Busch… I know the Malibu she speaks about… but it’s gone… instead we have distracted drivers who don’t wave hello and watch for runners, or care, but are annoyed that they are late for work so exceed the speed limit…. Ahhh, Malibu, perhaps we’ll find you behind a hidden trail one day.
I may wish bon voyage, but cringe when another environmentalist moves from Malibu. We need people that really understand this environment, the need to preserve animal corridors, native plants/areas, the need to let the wildlife thrive, elimination of all poisons and curbing over development. I am delighted that finally the issue of the “restoration” of the Malibu Lagoon was addressed. There’s always talk in Malibu about working together. This project will be perfect for those in Malibu who want to help and donate their time… I’m sure “the king of volunteer projects” can organize one more. It might take time but it’s a great way for the community to gather and create value, and hopefully have fun.
On another environmental issue, I spoke with a lovely woman at the paddle-out for Emily Shane. She told me how upset she would be if the lights wouldn’t be allowed for football games at Malibu High. I mentioned how adversity is a good thing … that the kids always say they love MHS teachers but there’s no diversity and what a good opportunity for the kids to travel to different schools, play on different ball fields and meet new people. She said wow, I didn’t think about it that way. Then we thought how “Block” parties are a great way to get people together.
