With 34.9 percent of the vote, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District President Julia Brownley easily won the Democratic primary for the 41st Assembly District seat on Tuesday night. Calabasas Mayor Barry Groveman came in second place with 26.8 percent, followed by Jonathan Levey (20.2 percent), Kelly Hayes-Raitt (14.9 percent) and Shawn Casey O’Brien (3.2 percent)

Due to the demographics of the district, the primary win virtually guarantees Brownley will be elected to the seat in November’s general election, replacing the termed-out Fran Pavley.
