Very few U.S. voters know that a mere 13 percent of the federal government is “shut down” and that 87 percent is open for business. There is no real shut down. Fewer know that every single federal employee on so-called “selective” furloughed fed employee is on fully paid furlough/vacation and will get paid when he or she returns to work.
Speaking of “work,” the Department of Education (a perfect example) was not created until 1980, and, as is true with the creation of every new and expanding department, along come thousands of regulations, more federal regulators (employees paid with our money of course), federal enforcers and the all-time favorites of the feds: employees who do nothing but “collect data.” How in the world did my generation ever get such a great education without Jimmy Carter’s Department of Education?
Also: the “debt ceiling” is not for past debts but a license for future at-whim spending for everything from free food stamps, cell phones, to IRS enforcers to pursue young people who refuse to pay for medical insurance or tax penalties.
The amus ing mes s in Washington is saving us taxpayer money. Keep the “shut down” going. Let China try to foreclose on us. “Default?” Just a dumb media hysterical hyper word. We are the most powerful people and militarily with the most untapped, unlimited resources on earth, and our great republic can stand proud and alone, if necessary.
Keep shrinking all local, state and the federal government which would soon half the unpatriotic, irresponsible spending by both parties, especially in Washington.
