The Pepperdine University men’s volleyball team’s amazing season, which included a 23-match winning streak and a league-record 21 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation wins, came to an abrupt end Thursday. The top-seeded Waves were upset in the first round of the NCAA Final Four in Columbus, Ohio by fourth-seeded Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne, 3-1 (27-30, 30-27, 30-27, 30-25).

“We earned the right to be here,” Pepperdine coach Marv Dunphy said. “We have been playing well all year. You are either good enough or you are not to be the national champions. Tonight we were not good enough. All year long we have prepared well. If I had to do it all over again we would do it the same.”
