Malibu High School alumnus Scott Michael Alkus died from injuries sustained in an accidental fall in Las Vegas on Jan. 14. He was 22.
The Cabrillo College student had been vacationing during a winter break from classes, and had recently been accepted as a junior in the Physics Department at UC Santa Cruz for the fall semester.
Alkus graduated from Malibu High in 2002. Following graduation, he worked as a waiter at the Ajax Tavern in Aspen, Colo. before taking a computer-programming job in Santa Cruz.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Michael Alkus and Susan Hamilton; mother Sharon Alkus, sisters Darcy and Joscelyne, brother Dexter and stepbrother Alex Mounsey.
Friends and family members gathered in Malibu on the weekend of Jan. 27 to celebrate Alkus’ memory.
